Omer Chomani, founder of VIKurdistan and one of the region’s most successful tour operators, has been instrumental in promoting tourism in Iraqi Kurdistan. Chomani began his efforts in 2005, helping the first international travelers to visit the region after the fall of Saddam Hussein. When the internet arrived in Iraq, Chomani used it to promote his homeland, with support from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s tourism office. In 2020, he officially registered his idea for Visit Iraqi Kurdistan and now leads groups on tours as far south as Baghdad and Basra.
